Dateline: [Troy, Michigan, July 1, 2024] — Virtus Solis, a Michigan based company commercializing spaced based solar power is collaborating with California based Artificial Genius (AG) to accelerate their system development using AG’s patented design optimization solution. Virtus Solis expects this unique and patented solution to reduce development times by more than 90% on key parts of software embedded in satellites and manufacturing. This time savings can help make space based solar power a reality sooner by removing bottlenecks and keeping the engineering team focused on optimal system performance.
After a technology evaluation earlier this year, Virtus Solis selected the unique solution offered by AG to augment their embedded controls development. AG’s solution makes it possible to directly generate software for manufacturing and operations. The jointly developed process starts with a model of a factory or a satellite and applies AG’s solution to generate software that optimizes performance. In evaluations AG’s solution dramatically reduced labor and time to go from concept to solution. The labor savings typically exceeded 90% while guaranteeing that the outcomes were nearly optimal even in situations with high uncertainty.
Dr. Edward Tate, Virtus Solis’ CTO observed that in one test, the AG tools discovered a control solution that was previously patented. This result demonstrated that the AG solution was capable of operating on par human creativity. Also, from the evaluation, problems that would not have been otherwise manageable were easily defined and then solved.
The key to this advance is the patented algorithms developed by AG’s CTO, Dr. Paul Burchard, former managing director of core R&D at Goldman Sachs. Based on his track record of innovation in diverse areas of pure and applied mathematics, and decades of independent research into artificial intelligence, he developed a general and computationally tractable way to have a system learn and make the best possible decisions at all times even when there are millions of things that are unknown. In collaboration with Virtus Solis’ CTO, Dr. Edward Tate, this solution was adapted to automatically build control software needed to run machines like electric motors, power inverters, robots, and even satellites. The software generated by this solution provides optimal behavior to improve metrics like efficiency, speed, durability, and risk.
Additionally, this control software can be generated without the usual lengthy manual processes used in embedded system development. Since the results are optimal, it eliminates the question of whether more algorithm development could improve a system further.
Virtus Solis plans to use this technology as part of their strategy to dramatically reduce capital and operation expenses so space-based solar power can become a near-term reality.
AG invites inquiries on how this technology can help other industries.
